Draft. This document hasn't been reviewed by a solicitor yet and the company details are still to be added. It will be finalised before LC9 Defence is publicly released.

This policy explains what personal data LC9 Defence ("we") collects, why, and your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. We collect only what we need to run the product.

The LC9 Defence app

  • Your files are scanned on your computer. We don't upload your files or their contents.
  • Scan history, quarantine and settings are stored on your computer only.
  • LC9 Free doesn't need an account and doesn't send us any personal data.
  • When you check for updates, your computer connects to our servers, which see your IP address and app version, as with any download. We don't link this to you.
  • If you sign in to activate Premium, we store a name for each device (which you choose), its Windows and app version, and when it was last seen, so you can manage your devices.

Your account and subscription

  • Account: email address and a securely hashed password. Legal basis: contract.
  • Payments: handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We keep Stripe's customer and subscription references, invoice amounts and dates. Legal basis: contract and legal obligation (tax records).
  • Support requests: what you send us. Legal basis: legitimate interest in helping you.
  • Security logs: sign-in attempts and account changes, kept to protect your account. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
  • Downloads: counted with a shortened IP address that can't identify you.

Who we share data with

Only processors that run the service for us: Stripe (payments), our hosting provider and our email provider. We don't sell personal data or use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

Account data for as long as you have an account. If you delete your account we delete your personal data within 30 days, except billing records we must keep for 6 years for tax purposes.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, delete or export your data, or object to how we use it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
